I am in Florida. In December, I was involved in a car accident. My friend was driving when we took a left turn and an oncoming car hit the passenger side door directly. I was in that seat. The injuries were minimal but I still had to go to the emergency room for x rays, pain meds, bandages… and we all know how expensive that can get! Lol. It's been months and I recently received a bill from the hospital saying that after insurance adjustments, I still owe money. I called BOTH drivers' insurance companies before calling mine. My friend's insurance company said to call the other driver's. The other driver's said that there was a dispute between both companies and that I should contact my insurance. My claims adjuster told me that what I was told didn't really make sense, because Florida is a no-fault state, and someone should be paying the other 20% of my bill! He called the other companies and got back with me, saying that he was shocked with the situation. The dispute ended with the arbitrator deciding that NEITHER driver was at fault, so now I am stuck with outstanding medical bills and no company coming forward to cover it. I feel that it is extremely unfair as an innocent party in the matter to have to cover my own bills at this point, but I do not know much about insurance to know whether this is a normal thing. My claims adjuster did not like it at all and said that I might want to look into demand letters. He said it seems fair that both would pay 50%, if they cannot decide who is at fault.
Can I get opinions from others?
